The Trickster from the little art series 2010-11
The trickster in European folklore and fairytales is a character of dualities. On one hand, the trickster is a master of the periphery- knowing exactly when to slip from the storybook page. On the other, one of theatricality and surprise - boldly reappearing and swiftly overturning the situation at hand. The trickster strategises through creativity and inverts situations without dictatorship. I therefore, stitch the ways of the trickster and learn the magic of crafting little art. My objects hover between mythological relics of wonder and a residue of armour worn in many encounters of Big Daddy Art.
I draw upon the trickster’s anthropomorphic qualities as they mark not only her/his ability to transform or role play but to transcend these prescribed roles or ‘fixed’ states. Through interchangability, creativity and wit, the trickster, like the artist is able to cross boundaries and forbidden territories. Flaunting with danger, the trickster/artist lures the audience into the unknown.
